An early whistleblower on the problem of sexual assault on campus, Amy Luna managed the county's sexual assault/domestic violence crisis hotline while completing her Master's Degree coursework in political philosophy and gender studies, also at Penn State. Decades ahead of her time, she effectively lobbied for university policies to support sexual assault survivors that remain in place today.
Following her academic studies, Amy Luna served as the Director of the Baltimore Country Bar Association's Pro Bono program, providing civil legal representation to indigent clients of all sexes, races, ethnicities and sexual orientations.

Martial Arts
Committed to the physical empowerment of both herself and women around the world Amy Luna (as a member of PAWMA - the Pacific Association of Women Martial Artists) was the instructor for the first all female class in the traditional Brazilian stick fight dance "Maculele" during the Primeiro Encountro Internacional de Capoeira (the First International Capoeira Encounter) in Ubatuba, Brazil in 1994. Dance Fascinated by the study of diverse cultures, Amy Luna found international success as an award-winning world dance scholar, choreographer and performer after moving to the San Francisco Bay Area. She traveled the globe as the Artistic and Music Director of two ethnic dance companies, Lunatique and Shuvani, and also as a solo Club Med Artist, performing dances from India, Russia, Egypt, Turkey, Spain, and more. At the invitation of the People's Republic of China, Amy Luna performed live on Chinese national state television with her dance company Lunatique (named Bellydance Company of the Year 2007) for a viewing audience of over 10 million while touring the country for the Beijing International Cultural Festival. Her dance company, Shuvani, was the first performance of Dances of the "Gypsy" Roma Trail in the history of the prestigious San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival. Amy Luna is recognized in the book The Tribal Bible as a foundational contributor to the development of American Tribal Style bellydance, which has since grown into a global phenomenon empowering women around the world to take back ownership of the public expression of female sensuality. Her ground breaking research documenting Kalbeliya dance (done on camel safari in the Thar Desert of Rajasthan, India) is included in the Romani Archives at the University of Texas at Austin. She is the founding producer of Cafe Bellie, a recurring benefit dance concert that raised thousands for victims of domestic violence. Music Also a master piano instructor, Amy Luna's original Play For a Lifetime piano method for beginning adults incorporates cutting edge research on the principles of brain fitness and was included in the curriculum of Pixar University, which offers the equivalent of an undergraduate fine arts education to Disney Pixar employees. Spirituality An initiated High Priestess who has lead a myriad of public rituals and a recognized expert in sacred female archetypes, Amy Luna has taught The Goddess Grace Moving Meditation (featuring 26 goddesses from around the world) in the California State University system and was the Music and Choreography Director for A Rainbow of Goddesses, a ritual performance at the New College of California for which Amy Luna composed and performed live original music for each goddess in the native musical style of 13 different countries. Nature Adventure A lover of nature and an adventurer at heart, Amy Luna is also a certified rescue scuba diver, motorcyclist, nature and wildlife photographer, and avid hiker of America's national parks. She has worked as a flight coordinator at the historic Talkeetna Alaska Airiport near Denali National Park, providing assistance to teams of Denali mountain climbers--when she wasn't hiking glaciers and photographing arctic wildlife. Undercover Investigation Inspired by Gloria Steinem's 1963 undercover expose of Playboy's treatment of young women's sexuality, in 2011 (nearly half a century later) Amy Luna went undercover herself, winning the title Miss Cougar International in order to research cultural stereotypes in our treatment of older women's sexuality. Illuminating anecdotes of the biased attitudes she encountered are included in her upcoming book, The Sex Evolution. Public Speaker and Author Amy Luna's firsthand knowledge of diverse cultures and spiritual traditions combined with her academic training and covert research as "Miss Cougar," give her a unique perspective on the relative influence of culture and media on our beliefs about sex roles, sexuality and ageing. She has been speaking to audiences about The Sex Evolution creating Strong and Sensual Humans since 2013. |
